Oils & Acrylics
Artistic expression follows many paths in one’s life: we ponder why some are drawn to the visual arts, tiny to gigantic, on wood or canvas, paper or fabric, glass or tiles, stone or steel? Why do others turn to music or dance, voice or acting, writing or directing as imaginative articulation? The boulevard of creativity is massive and so very wonderful!
Is our personal choice of art an act of nature or is it nurture? Is it the spirit of our DNA?
My artform is visual. My subject matter is eclectic. I create from sensory perception, attempting to visually mimic the taste and flavor of aromatic foodstuffs and spices, the whiff of springtime florals, the patter of rain, the chill of winter, the mystery of nature and scenes that imprint on my memory. I paint mostly in watercolor and alcohol ink, collage in fabric, carve in wood and most recently began fusing and cutting stained glass.
During my young adult years, I studied art in Philadelphia at the Moore Institute and the College of Art. After moving to Long Island, my life was sidelined by motherhood and a career in marketing and sales, yet I never allowed my art materials to gather dust. In 2007 I founded Harbormasters, a still thriving art league that uses creative space in the Centerport Beach House through the generosity of the Senior division of Huntington Township. As a group, we have exhibited in many libraries, galleries and juried art shows.
